Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, PA

Twelve Volunteers from Union Lutheran Church flew to Waveland, Mississippi (via New Orleans) to build two new home almost a year and nine months after Hurricane Katrina hit Mississippi on August 25, 2005.

April 29 - May 5, 2007

Last year the ULC Disaster Relief Response Team traveled to Biloxi, Mississippi to help repair flooded and damaged homes as a result of high winds and the thirty food wave from the Gulf of Mexico that pushed inland 2-3 miles via Hurricane Katrina. One year and nine months later many people are still trying to get their lives back and into their homes.

This year a team of 12 volunteers traveled to Waveland, Mississippi, located just to the West of Biloxi. They teamed up with Katrina Relief through the Waveland Citizens Fund Organization – www.wavelandcitizensfund.org to build two homes. They divided into two teams. The “A” team was assigned to build a small ranch home on top of newly installed 12x12 piers 10 foot off the ground. The “B” team was assigned to build a large ranch home, about 2500 sq ft plus a 2 car garage on a concrete slab. The week was devoted to rough framing (2x4 construction). The following pictures show some of their work and the ULC volunteers that attended. Team “A” was able to get their project under roof and Team “B” finished framing all outside walls and almost all the inside walls before the rain hit on Friday.

The Waveland Citizens Fund also posted some pictures of what the ULC volunteers accomplished on their web site. See www.wavelandcitizensfund.org/handcokddailyblog.html
